Sneak Peak: Four Resourceful Blogs for Early Learners

Happy Wednesday to all of you! It’s Lacey writing to you from a coffee shop nearby and I’m so excited to be sharing this week’s blog post.

With the school year wrapping up quickly and summer just around the corner, I sometimes find it difficult to get my creative juices flowing when planning my next session. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, music therapist, occupational therapist, or anyone who needs ideas and resources for your kiddos, you’ve come to the right place! I’m going to list FOUR of my favorite blogs for inspiring new ideas. Many of these blogs have FREE (or low cost) resources for you to download and use at home or in the classroom. Who doesn’t love free?!

If you’re a music therapist, you’ll see that many of these activities are not musical. This is the perfect opportunity to write your own song or piggy back music from a familiar tune. Some of our favorites include Are You Sleeping, London Bridge, and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Remember, it’s okay if your session isn’t entirely music. Let us know if you need help coming up with something!

1. A Dab of Glue Will Do (<– Click me!)

Jennifer at A Dab of Glue Will Do has created a super fun page with so many educational activities for you to use. Many of her items are free and organized by theme or school subject which makes it very easy to navigate. You can sign up to receive weekly emails right to your inbox for constant inspiration and motivation. If you’re anything like me, you need that little extra push to help get you going. Be sure to check out her pinterest page, too!

2. TotSchooling (<– Click me!)

You have to check out this freebie madness – tons and tons of free resources for you to download right to your computer and print. Viviana has resources categorized by age level, theme, and seasons. Her activities address the essential academic goals for early childhood and are colorful, fun, and easy to engage with. Subscribe to her page for free to get all of her freebies sent right to your email!

3. This Reading Mama (<– Click me!)

Becky at This Reading Mama has organized her resources by goal area, including spelling, reading, writing, comprehension, and others. While she has tons of free downloads, you can also purchase some really great bundled items from her online store. You can subscribe to her page at no cost to receive all of her free resources in your inbox. Check out her page, I promise it’s worth it!

4. Jbrary (<– Click me!)

Lindsey and Dana are children’s librarians who are absolutely incredible. If you check out their YouTube playlists page, they have lots of videos categorized by themes such as animals, foods, seasons, or by activity use such as parachute, scarves, or egg shakers. Their songs and rhymes are easily adaptable to meet the needs of the kids you are working with.

That’s it! We love taking a look at new websites and resources to fuel our creativity. If you have any go-to blogs that you use, please share them!

Happy exploring! 🙂
