Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down! A Fall-Themed Scarf Intervention

Hello everyone!

Can you believe it is November already!? Winter is just around the corner but that doesn’t stop us and our clients from enjoying the last few weeks of Autumn! This fall-themed activity uses scarves and works on following directions, decision making, and even sequencing. This intervention is great in individual sessions as well as big groups! Feel free to use any colored scarves or to bring it a step further, only use scarves that resemble fall colors – red, yellow, orange, and brown. Read below to learn this activity step-by-step.

Directions

To the tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down”

1. Pass out one scarf to each participant

2. Begin waving scarf up and down and sing “Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down, Autumn leaves are falling down, all day long”

4. Wave scarf side to side, left to right and sing “Autumn leaves fall side to side, side to side, side to side, Autumn leaves fall side to side, all day long”

5. Wave scarf high above your head and sing “Autumn leaves go swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, Autumn leaves go swish, swish, swish, all day long”

6. Rub scarf on your tummy and sing “Autumn leaves go tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, Autumn leaves go tickle, tickle, tickle, all day long”

7. Wave scarf in a circle and sing “Autumn leaves are rolling around, rolling around, rolling around, Autumn leaves are rolling around, all day long”

8. Rub the scarf on the floor and sing “Autumn leaves are on the ground, on the ground, on the ground, Autumn leaves are on the ground, all day long”

9. Scrunch up the scarf in a ball in your hands and sing “Autumn leaves go crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, Autumn leaves go crunch, crunch, crunch, all day long”

We hope you enjoy this activity as much as our students at school did! Do you have other ideas of how Autumn leaves more during fall? If so, let us know! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the Autumn season!
