What’s in our fidget box?! Take a peek!

Hello again, friends!

After a wonderful week partnering with the Autism Society of Minnesota at Camp Wahode, we’re taking a quick break to prepare for next week’s new campers. While planning each music therapy intervention with special care, we also plan out some relaxation time for campers to wind down. Keep reading for a list of fidget toys we always have handy and direct links for where to get them! Most of these items can be found on the National Autism Resources website here.

1. Noise Reduction Headphones

These are always a must have for kiddos who get easily overstimulated. Loud environments are more easily managed with the help of a little less outside sound, creating less stress and anxiety!

2. Wacky Tracks

These fun little fidgets are great to keep tiny hands busy. Bend, form and click this toy chain into all kinds of creative shapes, letters, and so much more! They come in all sorts of colors and lengths. Also available on Amazon here.

3. Bubbles

Bubbles are always a huge motivator for our clients. Many of them get so excited with this simple toy! We usually carry just a small pack in our bags for unexpected meltdowns. The containers are super easy to refill from a larger bottle and are the perfect size for a purse or toy bag. We always have a couple of songs about bubbles to go along, such as I Had a Tiny Turtle or All the Fish.

4. Inside Out Balls

Another favorite! This squishy neon inside out ball  can turn inside-out into a spiky ball! Kids love to squash, stretch, and throw it as a ball, or turn it inside out to feel the soft squishy spikes.

5. Squeeze Star (stress ball)

This super cute stress ball is a great fidget for your bag of tricks. It’s quiet, it’s squishy, and it won’t distract others….unless it’s thrown at them. Also, very easy to rinse off or wipe clean!

6. Mermaid Pillows

Click on the video below to check out how cool these pillows are. These are definitely a necessity for the fidget box! We tried these out at Camp Wahode, and the kids LOVED them so much that we had to set timers for them to take turns. They created tons of different designs and were so excited to share them with others. You can get these in lots of different colors, too!

Possibly one of my personal favorite sensory toys, moon dough is magical. More than anything else, it just feels cool. Another great thing about moon dough is that it is quick and easy to clean up. I like to keep this in my bag for kiddos who need to keep their hands busy and have high sensory demands.

8. Chewy

Last but not least, this one is for our kiddos who have high oral sensory needs. These chewy toys come in lots of different shapes and textures. We use these a lot when kids grind their teeth or have inappropriate/destructive chewing behaviors. It gives them the sensory stimulation they are seeking while being safe!

9. The Fidget Jackpot

The end all be all. If you want to get all of your fidgets with one click, this is a steal. We purchased this for Camp Wahode last week and have put it to good use!. This set includes:

-Tangle Relax

-Super Spaghetti Ball

-Inside Out Ball

-Squigglets Sensory Bracelet

-Poppin Peeper

-Moody Face

-Bendy Man

-Tactile Atom Ball

-Posh Ball

-Stretchy Frogs

-Super Sticky Starfish

That’s all, folks! Please let us know if you try any of these out. Also, we’d love to hear about your favorite fidgets!
