Post by Alexa Rosenbaum, Toneworks intern

It’s Halloween Eve, and we have had so much fun doing all kinds of Halloween songs and activities in the past couple of weeks in preparation!  We are constantly getting inspiration from our music therapy colleagues, and this post contains links to several different blog posts with some awesome Halloween ideas.

1.5 Little Pumpkins

Clients of all ages love this song, and it can be accompanied by both instruments and visuals.  Everything you need to know about this fun activity is in this post from our blog last October.  It even includes a recording of the melody that we use here at Toneworks and the corresponding instrument sounds that go along with each line!

2. Boogie Monster

Kerry Cornelius’s blog “Songs for Success” has some wonderful ideas for creative new interventions, and her posts are frequent and thorough.  Here is a great post that is all about songs relating to Monsters-perfect for the spooky Halloween season!

3. Thriller

Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is always a hit, and this post from Wholesome Harmonies, LLC has a great activity to get clients moving and creating dances of their own based on familiar Halloween characters. Like it says on the blog, this activity is perfect for teens- a hard age group to engage and entertain!

4. Halloween Songs

Though we try to avoid it, sometimes recorded music can be a really beautiful and helpful tool.  This blog post from Musical Bridges Music Therapy lists 30 songs that would be great for movement activities with large groups or instrument/scarf play when your voice and guitar need a little break!
